“In short, the paper will demonstrate that a dominant party has both nondemocratic
and democratic features in its evolution, although discussion will be limited mostly on the latter. In its deliberations the paper will turn to a few cases of one-party dominant systems in the region namely the ANC
(African National Congress) in South Africa, SWAPO (South West African People’s Organization) in Namibia, CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) in Tanzania and BDP (Botswana Peoples Party) in Botswana.”
