Swaziland’s Struggle with Political Liberalisation

“The research critically evaluates six key determinants in Swaziland’s political
landscape, namely: the electoral system; electoral administration; the nonexistence
of political parties; and constitutionalism and democratic assistance. Gender is streamlined to ensure that its crosscutting nature is preserved. The study starts from the premise that there is no democracy to be
consolidated in Swaziland. It further argues for the need to transform the tinkhundla system into a more open, transparent and accountable system of governance, as well as the need to adopt a constitution that informs the conduct of politics in Swaziland.”
