“A closer look at Botswana’s ‘success story’ reveals a number of disturbing trends. Despite an impressive track record, Botswana’s growth has not translated into a
significant degree of socio-economic transformation – the benefits of economic growth and development success being enjoyed by some much more than most. Overdependence
on diamonds, high unemployment levels and unacceptably high levels of poverty and inequality, both in terms of assets (primarily cattle) and income, are
persistent problems. This paper discusses some of these issues.”
