Policy Brief: Democratic Transition and Electoral Security in Ghana

“In Ghana, the Fourth Republican Constitution of 1992 makes provision for a smooth alternation of political power between political parties through free and fair elections supervised by an independent electoral commission. The Constitution, also, provides ample guidelines that direct the conduct of the security agencies in promoting democracy in Ghana. This makes the Fourth Republican Constitution an exhaustive and supreme security framework which legitimizes the existence of, not only the state and the elective government, but also the security of the entire citizenry.” This policy brief appears in the CPMRD Newsletter.
