Suresh Chandra Babu is a senior research fellow and senior adviser at IFPRI, where he heads the Training and Capacity-Strengthening Program and coordinates the South Asia Initiative. Before joining IFPRI in 1992, Babu was a research economist at Cornell University, USA. From 1989 to 1994 he was in Malawi, where he was senior food policy adviser to the Malawi Ministry of Agriculture; an evaluation economist for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)-Malawi; coordinator of the UNICEF/IFPRI food security program in Malawi; and a senior Lecturer at the Bunda College of Agriculture. Babu has conducted development research for many bilateral and international organizations and has written or cowritten numerous journal articles and book chapters. Babu was educated at Agricultural Universities in Tamil Nadu, India (B.S., agriculture; M.S., agriculture) and at Iowa State University, USA (M.S. and Ph.D., economics).
