Ghana’s Relations with China

Ghana has gained independence in 1957 and has been very proactive in originating and implementing development programmes for which it has received substantial donor support. Ghana is not a resource-abundant country but enjoys a favourable coastal position. Between 1966 and 1981 a series of problems brought the economy to near collapse but the pro-market economic recovery programme from 1983 made Ghana one of the favoured destinations of investment in Africa. Ghana established diplomatic ties with China and since then the international relations, economical relations and political relations between the two countries grew from strength to strength.
