Mr Charl van der Merwe is currently an MA candidate in Development Studies at the University of Johannesburg. He holds a BA (Honours) in Development Studies from the University of the Western Cape’s Institute for Social Development (2008) and a BA in International Studies from the University of Stellenbosch (2005). His research interests and focus is urbanisation and sustainable urban livelihoods in Africa, focusing in particular on urban food security in African cities.
