Dr. Stuart Gillespie specializes in action research that focuses on elucidating the bidirectional impacts of HIV/AIDS and food security and working with African partners to strengthen household and community resilience in the face of AIDS. He also manages several research initiatives focused on food and nutrition security in Africa and South Asia. Stuart is co-founder and director of RENEWAL (Regional Network on AIDS, Livelihoods and Food Security). A British citizen, Gillespie earned a Ph.D. in human nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1988. Before joining IFPRI in 1999, he worked with various international agencies, bilateral agencies, and nongovernmental organizations on nutrition policy analysis, information systems development, and monitoring and evaluation.
