Dr. Okello Angoma is currently lecturing at IPSS and lead researcher on African Union Peace and Security Programme, African-led Solutions for African Peace and Security Problems, the case of South Sudan. He has been working in South Sudan for two years now to develop a comprehensive Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution strategy (CPMR) together with the government of South Sudan’s Peace and Reconciliation Commission (SSPRC). He is also involved in the China-Africa Think-Tank in Peace and Security in Africa. He is also actively involved in the work of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Continental Early Warning (IGAD) at the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC). With more than 25 years of experience as conflict transformation specialist, Dr Okello has practical skills and knowledge in community, institutional, departmental, governmental and non-governmental development of policy, programmes and projects. He is widely known in the region of the Great Lakes on peace talk mediation and facilitation.
Dr Okello Angoma has managed World Bank projects, trained UNESCO Voluntary Organisations. He brought forward the development of the local intermediaries (traditional Chiefs) in resolving Lord’s Resistance Army conflict in Northern Uganda and South Sudan for national and international forums. He developed peace education and local FM radio stations and programs on conflict, security, development, gender mainstreaming and youths’ capacity development in Northern Uganda and South Sudan.
Dr Okello Angoma has extensive knowledge in the Great Lakes region, Horn, Central and parts of West and Southern Africa. He worked in Uganda, Republic of South Sudan, Northern Nigeria, North-Western Kenya, Ethiopia, Serbia, UK, Sweden, Canada, Cambodia, Norway, Denmark, Tanzania, France, Italy and specific parts of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following the LRA.
