Lake Victoria is the main source of fish for East African countries. Five communities in Kenya depend on the lake for survival. The fishing sector has been affected by climate change but deforestation and emissions have also contributed to the problem. The high poverty index has contributed to the majority of fish processors using inefficient processing techniques that compromise sustainability of the fuel base. This paper is looking at alternative biomass energy products for fisher folk to use in the processing of their fish. The study aims to involve fisher folk to adopt the improved cookstove technology for frying and smoking of fish.
