African Architecture for Peace and Security: Relevance in the Design and Difficulties in Achievement

The great question that challenges Africans, in the field of safeguarding peace and security, remains the question of whether the Pan-African organization which aspires to lead the continent towards peace and prosperity and the human and material resources potential, can ensure the realization of these ambitions with its own institutions? In other words, can the African Union manage African crises with Independent African means? This main question calls for others that are intermediate: What is the AAPS and what are its main components? What are the relationships between the structures responsible for peace and security in Africa? What coordination governs cooperation between the RECs, the AU Peace and Security Council, the Commission or even the Conference? What is the importance, magnitude or necessity of external intervention? The institutions developed by the African Union in this regard do not suffer from lack of relevance or lack of design. However, some adjustments remain necessary for the functionalization and operationalization of institutional structures set up under the leadership of the Peace and Security Council that manages the African conference on the cause of peace.
