“Following a brief background to place the current state of play in Burundi into context, an overview will be provided of the steps taken in the first half of 2009 to finalise the peace process with the Palipehutu-FNL. This will be followed by an
analysis of the current situation in the country, which has for a while been marked
by increased tension as next year’s elections approach. The report concludes with
an overview of the current general political and social climate to give an idea of the context in which the elections are likely to take place.”
