“China has become increasingly present in modern day development discourse and justifiably so. This is largely due to the fact that it is one of the fastest growing countries in the world today, and that Chinese presence in Africa has grown substantially over the last few years. This presence is by way of investments and provision of financial and other aid i.e. technical assistance, loans and grants. This has raised questions about China’s intentions, its impact on African economic and political life and whether it has any place in Africa’s development agenda. Two reports titled; Mapping Chinese Development Assistance in Africa and An assessment of Chinese Development Assistance in Zambia formed the basis on which a one day national consultation forum/workshop was organised, of which this report is written.”
