“In this paper, we provide a brief summary of the emerging challenges for African development options and the implications of the emerging external environment for these options. In Section 2, we discuss the
background of the African development strategy of the 1960s and 1970s as an input into the appreciation of the extent of change taking place in Africa. In Section 3, we review the emerging consensus on the current development policy options/strategy, and in Section 4 we discuss the WTO and the implications of the agreements for the African development policy options. Section 5 addresses regional integration in the WTO world and Section 6 concludes.”
