“This paper aims at exploring the links between macroeconomics/economic development and the demand /supply balance for water in Southern Africa. The authors starts by briefly describing the water situation in Southern Africa and then consider the visions that we believe the people of the region may hold. Three different development scenarios are then examined with regard to economic growth and its effect on water demand in each individual country. This is followed by recommendations for macroeconomic management as well as management of water and related sectors. A short section at the end summarises the major conclusions.”
