Election Update 2005 Zimbabwe No 3

This paper discussed the proceedings of the April 2005 elections in Zimbabwe. It is then concluded that due to the relatively peaceful and non violent manner in which the elections were held, the 2005 parliamentary elections can be said to be free but because of the gerrymandering of constituencies ; the voter’s roll which is in shambles ; the discrepancies in the announcement of votes as well as the appointment of 30 Members of Parliament by the President, the election cannot be said to be fair. It is thus concluded that the 2005 general election in Zimbabwe was free but not fair.
