“The discussion begins with a fairly comprehensive survey of electoral democracy in the region with special reference to the selected countries. Section 2 chronicles the workings of various electoral systems in these countries and their impact on democratic governance and political stability of the region as a whole. The third section examines the efforts to institute some reform measures in the electoral systems. Fourth section compares the main electoral models used in the SADC region. The fifth section provides lessons learnt from the electoral reform processes in Lesotho, Mauritius and revisits the major findings.”
