“Many well intentioned efforts to provide support to Small and Medium Enterprises fail. It is important to understand the reasons for failure as well as unravel the reasons behind successful initiatives. What makes for a successful entrepreneur, can one train entrepreneurs? Is the emergence of entrepreneurialism the result of government programmes/ private sector initiatives? If South Africa is to promote a national climate that encourages and supports the growth of small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs these questions need to be addressed as a matter of urgency.”
