The highest prevalence of communicable diseases in the world occurs in Africa. In 2015, more than three times as many people died from AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. More than ten times as many people died from malaria as in the rest of the world combined. Non-communicable diseases are also increasing on the continent. Africa’s current development trajectory will be investigated in this paper. It will also analyze the prospects of achieving SDG targets 3.3 and 3.4. It will also explore alternative futures where progress toward these goals has advanced beyond the current development trajectory. The paper uses the International Futures (IFs) forecasting system to explore SDGs 3.3 and 3.4 and to assess long-term development outcomes associated with the achievement of these goals in Africa.
