“This situation report will look at the current situation, and at factors that could
destabilise the transition and progress towards elections. It will also examine
several short-to-medium-term scenarios for the remainder of the transition.To be able to understand the current situation in the DRC, one has to take in consideration what has been done by the Transition Government (TG), the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) and the international community to ensure the completion of the transition. This includes the legislative process, the electoral process, security sector reform, restoring peace in the Ituri area and the issue of the Forces démocratique de libération ration du Rwanda (FDLR).”
