“The focus of the book is on issues of governance and provision of public services in Zambia. The significance of this focus is against the backcloth of the high levels of poor delivery of public services in most African countries. The literature
attributes this state of affairs to several factors. Among these are issues related to poor governance, low level of economic development, which in turn could be attributed to poor management of the economy. This, therefore, means that the political and economic environments are important in understanding the role of the state in the provision of public services. These chapters, therefore, deal with the provision of public services in Zambia and the context of the political and economic environment in the provision of public services in the
country.”
