This brief report deals with three topics: President Mobuto’s attempts to rescue Zaire’s troubled economy in order to receive further Western aid; the failure of communism in the People’s Republic of the Congo, which is turning to the capitalist world for aid; and Mr Andrew Young, United States ambassador to the United Nations, who indicated in an interview that South Africa is being pressured to compromise and will likely accept proposals on SWA/Namibia as well as United Nations involvement.
