The water and environment sector contributes to the National Development Plan III through:
• Ensuring efficient management of water resources for hydro-power development, agricultural production and productivity, industrial development, tourism development and mitigation of climate and climate change effects • Promoting national tree cover for increased household incomes through sustainable natural resource management, watershed management, adaptation and mitigation of climate and disaster risk • Upgrading the national meteorological service to provide accurate and reliable weather information that will be crucial to the rest of the sectors of the economy • Provision of adequate safe and clean water supplies as well as improved sanitation facilities.
