The 2012 year was a mixed year for democracy in Africa, with both progress and disappointment. The presidential election of Kenya in March 2013 is one of the most significant elections and will have far-reaching implications for Kenya and the region. This election will be the first under a new developed constitution but also the first after the violent 2007-2008 elections. This chapter looks at the Post-Moi era and gives an overview of the key players in the 2013 elections. It also highlights the expected impact of a decentralized government.
