This paper is part of the research on understanding the interactions between MDGs and focuses on the objective of access to and availability of drinking water. The underlying conceptual framework is based on four interrelated propositions that will serve as a framework for the analysis model. The objective of this contribution is to model this conceptual framework and to apply it to data from a survey which was performed in the suburbs of the Dakar region. In the first section, we explore the different policies of access to water and identify the general context that governs the choice of households in terms of drinking water supply. Section 2, the main factors of this choice are based on survey data and organize the basic information on access to drinking water and Households in the Dakar region. Section 3 presents and estimates two models of Heckman selection applied to the water demand of households with private and household connections using other sources of supply. / Le Présent papier s’inscrit dans la faisceau des recherches sur la compréhension des interactions entres les omd, et met l’accent sur l’objectif relatif a l’access et la disponibilité de l’eau potable. Le Cadre conceptuel qui le sous-tend tient en quatre propositions interdépendantes qui vont servir de charpente au modele d’analyse. l’Objectif de cette contribution est de modeliser ce cadre conceptuel et de l’appliquer aux données issues d’une enquete dans les banlieues de la region de Dakar. Dans une première section nous explorons les différentes politiques d’accèss a l’eau et identifions le contexte general qui préside au choix des ménages en matière d’approvisionnement en eau potable. Section 2, abord sous l’angle de la statistique descriptive, les principaux facteurs de ce choix elle s’appuie sur des données d’enquêtes et organise les informations de base concernant l’accèss a l’eau potable et la consommation d’eau des ménages dans la region de Dakar. Le section 3 présente et estime deux modèles de selection a la Heckman, appliques a la demande d’eau des menages disposant d’un branchement privé et á cell des mènages recourant á d’autres sources d’approvisionnement.
