“The paper contains a progress report and a work guide for the study of poverty and poverty alleviation in Botswana, conducted by BIDPA for the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. The first part which outlines the approach and methodology adopted by the team includes: task group assignments, literature review a conceptual framework for understanding poverty and poverty alleviation. Household Income and Expenditure Survey, rapid poverty profile, reviews of policies and programmes and progress in relation to the work programme. The second part identifies six areas of focus: Labour Based Public Works, Preventive Health, Destitute Policy, Financial Assistance Policy, Basic Education and the Arable Land Development Programme.”
