“This report on monitoring economic integration in SADC marks the start of a series of annual reports, intended to assist the SADC secretariat by providing information on the progress of economic integration in the region, measured in the light of SADC’s formulated objectives. The first section provides a very brief background on the evolution of SADC. The second section explains the methodology of this initiative, based on an overview of SADC’s monitoring mechanism and other relevant activities and institutions. The five following sections focus on key elements of SADC: trade, economic liberalisation and development, infrastructure support and the SADC National Committees. “
