This study commenced with an introduction
and conceptual and theoretical
clarifications of central concepts and
issues particularly those of demilitarization, disarmament,
demobilization, rehabilitation,
reinsertion, reintegration and
resettlement and components of post
conflict transition. Thereafter a
background is provided by examining
the grievances, agitation and insurgency in the region, the military militia low intensity war since 1998 and the outcomes and effects. Then the study concentrates on the amnesty and post amnesty programmes and examines their implementation, performance, effects and challenges thus far. The nature of post conflict transitional efforts in the region is then examined against the prospects that it holds for resolving the conflicts and building enduring and sustainable peace.
