“The conference focused on two themes:firstly, policy challenges in the management of HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus/ acquired immune deficiency syndrome) in the uniformed sector and secondly, male circumcision and the accompanying challenges in the armed forces. The conference follows the evidence
presented by three randomised controlled trials (Orange Farm, South Africa; Rakai, Uganda; and Kisumu, Kenya)that have found that circumcised men have a reduced risk
of about 60 per cent of contracting HIV infection from heterosexual intercourse.”
