“In general this report tackles the most important research conclusions, namely those related to legislation governing the establishment and operation of political parties, as well as the environment in which they operate. It also identifies the important challenges and opportunities that political parties in Angola face. The study discusses the social, political and economic contexts in which the parties operate, and the laws, challenges and opportunities that prevail. It also examines the performance of parties in the 1992 elections and how parties are preparing for the next election. It became evident that such issues as internal democracy and the promotion
of gender equality and youth within the parties still need special attention.
Five people were interviewed per party and these included members of a party’s executive, intermediary and grassroots structures. Women party members were interviewed wherever possible.”
