“This paper will concentrate on the existing
support systems for victims of gender violence and those envisaged by the Ministry of Safety and Security. The paper will examine training programmes for SAPS members that seek to change bias among policemen and enable officers to deal more effectively with those who have suffered gender crimes. The idea that “victim empowerment and support could prove to be one of the most effective ways of addressing the increasing crime rate” will also be examined. The impact of the training will be assessed, and a set of guidelines and standards formulated to facilitate the evaluation of gender sensitivity training in the future.”
