“This study interrogates the past, attempts a brief analysis of the historical background, and then relates that historical background to the current debate regarding the Zambian parliament and its role in the democratisation process.
The role of political parties in Zambia’s parliamentary democracy is important and forms the very basis of parliamentary democracy: without strong and stable political parties there can be no parliamentary democracy to speak of.
Furthermore, this study looks at the parliamentary reform initiatives instituted
since the early 1990s following the introduction of multiparty politics. The research also highlights the need to consolidate parliamentary reforms and their dissemination throughout the republic.”
