“This study is by no means comprehensive. It gives primary attention to what is generally acknowledged to be a violent and coercive
disarmament campaign of the Lou Nuer of Jonglei State. The study will include some
analysis drawn from investigations conducted by the author in February 2006 of a parallel, but largely peaceful, disarmament campaign carried out in the eastern Upper Nile among the Jikan Nuer.”
