Senator McGovern addressed SAIIA on 7 December 1978 on an issue that was similar to the American situation 200 years ago namely maintaining security and stability whilst advancing freedom and justice. The Senator described the free world and what it means to be part of that world. He talked about inequality and injustice that hampers freedom in South Africa. This is the reason for the change in foreign policy towards South Africa to defend freedom. In the discussion he also addressed several questions on Africa, democracy and the free world.
