This presentation mainly informs about the role of women in the agricultural sector. The document states that generally, the goal of the agricultural sector is to achieve sustainable economic growth, as well as social development leading to the increase and diversification of household incomes and ensuring food and nutritional security for the entire population. Should women have had the same access to productive resources as men, they could have increased yields on their farms by 20-30 %. The total agricultural output could have been raised in developing countries by 2.5-4 %, which could in turn reduce the number of hungry people in the world by 12-17%. The presentation further discusses the importance of food and nutritional security, as well as the high dependency on agricultural employment. Under the heading – main findings – it is stated that Rwanda has made a strong commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women. The decentralization policy ensures that all Rwandans are involved in the planning process and the implementation of policy and the Women’s National Council ensures representation of women at all administrative levels.
