The neutral option and Sub-continental solidarity: A consideration of Foreign Minister Pik Botha’s Zürich statement of 7 March 1979

This paper is a comment on the Statement made by Mr. Pik Botha, the Minister of Foreign Affairs on 7 March 1979, at the Swiss-South African Association in Zurich. The theme for his address was the possible neutral position that South Africa had to adopt with regard to the struggle between east and west. This is further explained through the foreign relations that South Africa has to build if it decided to take neutral stance.
