“Confidence in a country’s future depends both on sound economic conditions and on a stable political environment. But it is equally true that a lack of confidence can itself create negative results, politically and economically, and therefore confidence is a necessary ingredient for stable development.Various political constraints, internal and external, are now hampering development in Southern Africa and affecting the attitudes of people overseas in such crucial areas as investment. If these contraints can be removed, there is no reason to doubt the potential for healthy economic development in the whole region of Southern Africa.”
