The Rhodesian Agreement: Aspects and Prospects

This document describes aspects and prospects of the Agreement signed in Salisbury on 3 March, 1978, which marked a milestone towards majority rule in Rhodesia. The Agreement was a remarkable achievement, because the negotiating parties succeeded where many had failed. The Agreement is a genuine mechanism for the transfer of power from the minority to the majority and addresses the aspirations of the black majority which drove them into the liberation struggle.

The document looks at the development of black political associations in Rhodesia, especially the SRANC, NDP, ZAPU, and the UANC, and examines some of the criticisms and propaganda against the March 3 Agreement. It also turns to the policies of a future UANC, especially concerning non-racialism, external affairs, and the economy.
