The Somalia Conflict Implications for Peacemaking and Peacekeeping Efforts

“The conflict in Sudan is not a sudden and inexplicable eruption, but rather a result of the interplay of a multiple of historical, social and political processes that has shaped the political and socio-economic structure of Somalia. To adequately understand the conflict and identify its implications for peacemaking and peacekeeping efforts in Somalia, it is imperative to examine the processes or factors that underlie Somalia’s highly complicated and protracted conflict. The aim of this paper is accordingly to make a modest attempt to identify and discuss these processes/factors and the dynamics and nature of the conflict and to identify the ways in which they impact upon initiatives for peacemaking and peacekeeping in Somalia. The paper draws heavily on secondary sources, including books, journals and reports of various institutions.”
