There are limited policy and legal frameworks for the protection of traditional knowledge in Africa. The regional or international legal instruments are unlikely to address the needs and aspirations of the individual states. This report attempts to explain traditional knowledge, its economic and social values, the opportunities available to protect it and the way forward for countries which may wish to consider protecting traditional knowledge.
