Poverty and Environmental Quality in the Niger Delta Region: Dependence on Biomass Fuels as the Source of Household Energy

This study analyzed the relationship between poverty and environmental quality in the Niger Delta Region. It focuses on determining how population growth has affected forest and non-forest resource exploitation in the Niger Delta Region; establishing the relationship between poverty and the source of domestic energy consumption; establishing the relationship between poverty, biomass or wood energy demand and environmental quality; determining the rural and urban dimensions of the observed relationships and any conflicts that could arise or have arisen there from; and outlining the major policy challenges.
