Aïssatou Fall

Aïssatou Fall is the Head of the Gender, Peace and Security Program, one of the key program areas of the Research Department of Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). She previously worked at the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) at the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission for Bakassi, Dakar, Senegal, and at the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime. Ms. Fall is the author of Casamance, Understanding the Casamance Conflict: A Background, (KAIPTC Monograph, December 2010), two policy briefs: Insurgent Movements in West Africa: A Need for Preventive Actions in Mali, Niger and Senegal, (KAIPTC Newsletter, January 2009); and Drug Trafficking in West Africa – The Role of Parliamentarians (for FES and DCAF).  On the training and development of learning materials, Ms. Fall has co-authored a module, Gender and Multidimensional Peace Support Operations, (A. Fall & K. Aning, 2009),  published by GTZ, KAIPTC, ECOWAS and WIPSEN-A. Ms. Fall teaches Gender and Women’s Issues; Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in various training courses of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre. Ms. Fall has an interest in regional peace and security in West Africa, insurgent movements in Africa, conflict prevention, drug trafficking, gender and multidimensional peace support operations.  She currently has two focuses: (1) The protection of civilians in armed conflict with regards to sexual exploitation and abuse in peacekeeping, conflict and post-conflict reconstruction; (2) Mainstreaming Gender in national and regional peace and security institutions and mechanisms. Ms. Fall holds an M.A in Conflict Resolution, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Bradford, United Kingdom, an M.Sc in Sciences of Management, Department of Economic Sciences and Management, Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar, Senegal, and an M.Philin Economic Policy and Economic Analysis, Centre de Recherches Economiques Appliquées (CREA), Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar, Senegal.  She speaks French, English, and has a good understanding of German.
