This newsletter discusses various issues of differing importance. The first article on page 6 is titled the Impact of Climate change on human health: the case of schistosomiasis. This article discusses several mechanisms by which climate change can have an affect on health. In this instance the various problems regarding clean and safe water and the transmission of water borne diseases is discussed. The following article on page 9: Indigenous opinions for achieving justice and enduring peace in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. CPED undertook research in this area to investigate what should be done to bring about lasting peace in the oil rich region of Nigeria in order to achieve sustainable development. On page 14 CPED’s progress is discussed in terms of the implementation of a project on improving maternal, newborn and child healthcare in under served rural areas of Nigeria. The article on page 17 : Achieving sustainable development through the girl child education: Challenges and way forward. In spite of the benefit of education as a tool for economic liberation and societal integration, girls in Nigeria lag behind in major indices of being educated.
