Liesl Louw-Vaudran

Liesl Louw-Vaudran is a senior researcher with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Pretoria. She is the editor of the ISS monthly report on the African Union Peace and Security Council and currently working on SADC and Southern Africa for the ISS Peace Operations and Peacebuilding Programme and the Special Projects Programme. 

She has written two books on Africa. Her latest book ‘South Africa in Africa – Superpower or Neocolonialist?’ focuses on South Africa’s role in the rest of Africa since the end of apartheid. Other publications include: ‘The meaning of Morocco’s return to the African Union’ (ISS North Africa paper, January 2018), ‘Can South Africa regain its gravitas in Africa?’ (University of Stellenbosch Policy Paper, December 2017) ‘Is South Africa a norm-entrepreneur in Africa?’ (ISS Policy Brief, December 2016).
